As local municipalities, city and state governments look for cost-effective ways to go "green" and save money, SYNLawn artificial grass continues to emerge at the forefront of the conservation push. Officials of South Las Vegas city, Henderson, NV looked to SYNLawn to replace several of Henderson's parks and playground areas, converting them from hot rubber surfaces to a cooler, safe and more durable surface with SYNLawn's artificial grass playground products.
So far, two parks in the area (Whitney Ranch and Black Mountain) have been converted from the rubber surface to SYNLawn with a 3rd (Sun Ridge Park) scheduled to be completed this month.
Rusty Ferdinand, Parks and Facilities Coordinator says the rubberized material previously used in the Henderson city parks would split, crack, peel and fade in the extreme heat within a 5 year period. Replacing the old material with new rubber can be quite expensive, on average costing approximately $40,000 to $50,000 per playground. In comparison, SYNLawn's turf is cheaper, lasts longer, and is backed up with a manufacturer warranty ranging from 7 to 12 years depending on the product.

New York's cultural hot-spot, the luxurious Standard Hotel recently installed SYNLawn on the hotel's rooftop to created a high-altitude country club setting with a spectacular view. Described as a "retro wonderland that looks like what could very well have been Dean Martin's Vegas backyard in the '60s" by the hoteliers the rooftop is covered in SYNLawn's artificial grass with fashionable furniture, glass walls, picnic tables and five oversized, round, pink waterbeds.
The recent upgrade to the hotel's rooftop is a growing trend within urban environments. With many products now manufactured using SYNLawn's Heatblock Technology™ lower surface temperatures on the surface of a roof can make a big difference, plus SYNLawn is usable in any weather, year-round.

Synthetic lawn and turf may not actually grow, but its popularity continues to develop, due to concerns about water usage and increased interest in urban areas. That growth comes with the backing of soy, as Universal Textile Technologies (UTT) uses its BioCel™ and EnviroLoc™ backing on a number of turf products. The United Soybean Board and the soybean checkoff helped develop soy based polyols which, UTT used to develop their carpet backing systems from the beginning to develop the backing products, which UTT also uses for carpet-backing.
"UTT began using soy-based technology on synthetic turf in 2007, with the goal of providing sustainability to the synthetic turf industry before customers demanded it", says Doug Giles, UTT. "Sustainability wasn't the only attribute, as soy-based turf backing also performs well."

LAS VEGAS, NV — Will and Jayla, Las Vegas residents, experienced first-hand having their yard crashed by DIY. Yard Crashers, a highly popular home improvement show airing on the DIY Network, selected the lucky couple for their latest weekend project. Ahmed Hassan, professional landscape professional and host of the show, waits at stores looking for the perfect weekend warriors who could definitely use his help. Once he finds his target, Ahmed and his team follow the surprised shoppers home and completely transform their yards. This time Ahmed decided to transform a barren desert backyard into an oasis paradise for Will and Jayla using SYNLawn.
Working with the SYNLawn Las Vegas design consultants, the Yard Crashers team chose SYNFescue Platinum 320 for the 600 square foot installation. The lush appearance really brought the backyard to life and with it’s bright colors looked perfect on camera. Before the yard was “crashed,” the yard wasn’t a yard at all! Will and Jayla only had a concrete slab outside the backdoors, the rest was ... well ... a desert.
