SYNLawn and the artificial grass industry

The Great Debate: Slit Film or Monofilament

All artificial grass yarn falls into the category of either slit film or monofilament. The obvious questions is which one is the best choice? Slit film is made exactly as the name implies. It is extruded as a solid sheet and slit into smaller ribbons or tapes. Therefore, slit film does a good job of immulating wider blade grass when viewed from a distance. Slit film also has the advantage that it can be extruded at higher output rates than monofilament; therefore, a lower cost. The disadvantage is a slit film yarn will always be basically a flat yarn. Most real, wider-blade grass viewed up close has a spine that cannot be immulated with a slit film yarn. This spine also acts as a support and provides it with rigidity.

Going the Distance: Fescue is Here!

SYNFescueSYNLawn is pleased to announce the newest additions to our arsenal of exclusively designed turf products are now available. Named SYNFescue and SYNFescue Premium, these surfaces have been field tested and exceed SYNLawn's existing required quality standards. What makes SYNFescue and SYNFescue Premium different? First, the look. Think of your lawn in that short window before you recognize that it needs to be mowed and you wish it would stop growing because it’s just the right length: that’s the design. SYNFescue and SYNFescue Premium look like a full lawn that is just about due to be cut.

Tree Installation Techniques

On the front page of SYNLawn.com, there is a tab titled Installation Videos that illustrate some of the various steps suggested in the preparation, installation and maintenance of SYNLawn turf. Due to the numerous application possibilities SYNLawn offers, we simply don’t have time to list every possible SYNario. This would require elves and magic that we cannot conjure. From time to time, however, we’ll share some of the tips and techniques collected by our installers in the field. This issue we’ll be sharing some notes for the installation of synthetic grass around trees. First you want to make sure the irrigation lines are properly installed prior to installing base material. Mark the locations of the lines in order to avoid nailing through them.

SYNLawn’s Continental Expansion

First, a little clarification: while it’s true SYNLawn is expanding outside of America’s domestic borders, we’ve only just begun in the land of the free and the home of the brave. The province of British Columbia will house SYNLawn’s Canadian national headquarters. The store at #140 948 McCurdy Road in Kelowna will open in the first quarter of 2006 and serve the needs of Canada as the Canadian expansion continues. Reg Henry and company will be “making Canada greener one yard at a time” from a 2,500 square foot location that will include sample areas and a putting green. The area outside the store will feature over 1,800 applied square feet of SYNFescue, SYNBlue and SYNRye. Also opening in the first quarter of 2006 is SYNLawn’s Oregon store. Located a little west of the Beaverton Town Square at 12745 SW Beaver Dam Road, David and Roslyn McFarland and company plan to “kick grass one yard at a time.”

New Mexico Ronald McDonald House

It’s stressful enough to have a family member that requires specific medical attention, but when the required facility is miles away from your home, the expenses can be overwhelming. That’s where the Ronald McDonald House Charities come in. The Ronald McDonald House program began in 1974 and has since become Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC). The three core programs of RMHC - the Ronald McDonald House, Ronald McDonald Family Room and Ronald McDonald Care Mobile - are all focused on helping families in need. Since 1982, the New Mexico Ronald McDonald House in Albuquerque has provided an affordable “home away from home” for families with ill or injured children being cared for at nearby Albuquerque medical facilities.
