Proper Staking Techniques

Tags:

We like to share installation techniques from time to time. This time around, we'll share some suggestions regarding proper staking techniques. The recommended stakes for installation are 5.5" galvanized roofing nails. They should be galvanized to prevent rust. The head of the nail is approximately 1/4" in diameter.

The perimeter of the turf application should be staked every 6-8 inches. Two nails can be used to secure the corners. They should be placed 1" from the edge of the turf. Drive the stake down about 4 inches, then separate the fibers with your fingers before driving the stake down to the primary backing. Be sure not to drive the stake too aggressively, as it may cause a visible depression. Stakes should be staggered across seams to reinforce the seams after the adhesives dry. Putting greens are sured by staking the fringe turf. The putting turf is seamed to fringe turf. If the putting surface is on a grade then 2-3 inch galvanized finish nails can be used in the putting surface. Finish nails have small heads, but they are just large enough to hold the backing to the surface. These nails can be used to secure the putting turf around the putting cups. If the base is not deep enough, the sand infill around the perimeter is used to secure the turf. Plan on using (approximately) an additional 1/2 pound per square foot. The exclusive non-infill products require staking within the perimeter. The stakes are placed in a cross pattern every 12-24 inches. Utilizing these techniques should benefit the overall look and maximize the life of your SYNLawn synthetic turf application.
