NEW YORK, NY — “You can’t have a great city, without great parks” said New York mayor Michael Bloomberg. New York City has several famous parks you may have heard of before including Central Park, Bryant Park and maybe even Washington Square Park in the Greenwich Village section of NYU. The next amazing NYC park receiving worldwide attention is Brooklyn Bridge Park, the first major park built in Brooklyn in 135 years. Situated at the SouthWest base of the Brooklyn Bridge, the once booming hub of shipping and manufacturing is evolving into an 85-acre waterfront park which features SYNLawn artificial grass as well as an incredible view of the Manhattan skyline.

Expected to open this summer, the “green” redevelopment of Pier 2 began with the concept of having roots in recycling and soul in sustainability which quickly became a perfect match for SYNLawn’s environmentally friendly artificial grass for the 30,000 square foot leisure green field portion of the project. Commissioned by the not-for-profit Brooklyn Bridge Park Corp. and designed by the award-winning firm of Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, Inc., the new park will contain several wildlife habitats and will surely turn the once bleak expanse of abandoned buildings and dreadful concrete into a beautiful, lush and tranquil retreat complete with one of the city’s most picturesque views of the Big Apple.

“We had a very positive experience with Anastasia Phillips and her NY SYNLawn installation team. They were professional, punctual and very knowledgeable of their product and the industry as a whole. We look forward to working with them again” Andrew Cloutier – Kelco Construction

Months of design and planning by Anastasia Phillips and her team at SYNLawn New York went into developing a systems based solution to meet the unique demands of the project as well as meet the needs of the community and ecosystem along the East River shoreline. After several varieties of SYNLawn artificial grass were considered the NY team ultimately chose SYNTipede Platinum 322 in combination with a recycled poly green foam pad installed over a compacted aggregate bed for heavy foot-traffic, proper drainage, maximum safety and dimensional grass blade stability for lasting beauty and a long lifespan.

Stay tuned as the construction of Pier 2 continues to develop and join us this summer as SYNLawn will take place in the dedication of the leisure field, we can’t wait to see what the park is going to look like once completed.
