Dalton, GA — SYNLawn, a leading manufacturer of synthetic turf products for professional and residential use is displaying its environmentally friendly soy-based products in Booth 1842 during the GREENBUILD International Conference and Expo in Washington, DC, November 18-20.

Washington Square Park in New York encompasses slightly more than ten acres in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village neighborhood

The exclusive SYNLawn EnviroLoc™ Backing System has an enhanced multi-layer component system that “locks” in durable turf fibers, extending the product’s lifecycle. The backing replaces a large portion of petroleum-based polymers with biobased polymers created from soybean plants, and then adds Celceram™ (a recycled product of coal combustion) for superior strength and dimensional stability.

The technology represents a new use for soy. According to U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) data, about 600,000 U.S. family farmers grow soybeans on the rough equivalent of 60 million football fields offering an abundant and renewable supply of ingredients for food and livestock feed as well as industrial products. Each year, those plants remove the carbon equivalent of taking 21 million cars off the road. SYNLawn products also contribute to a lower carbon footprint by eliminating emissions from lawn equipment.

SYNLawn is assisting Federal agencies that are facing new environmental sustainability requirements as a result of President Obama’s Executive Order of March 2015: Planning for Federal Sustainability in the Next Decade (EO 13693). The EO directs federal agencies to reduce by 2 percent annually through fiscal year 2025 the gallons of water used for industrial, landscaping, and agricultural consumption relative to the fiscal year 2010 baseline.

The new EO complements the laws that Congress enacted for the government to set the pace for the nation by buying biobased products under the federal BioPreferred Program. It requires federal agencies to include biobased products in at least 95% of all contract actions.
