D.R. Horton Summer Camp Ranch upgrades with SYNLawn artificial grass
Fort Stockton, TX & Located in a remote desert location in Western Texas, Camp Horton recently upgraded their unique camp facilities using sustainable SYNLawn artificial grass. Jeremey Piltzmaker, General Manager of SYNLawn Houston, and his team completed an installation at the home ranch of D.R. Horton, founder and board chairman of D.R. Horton, Inc., the largest homebuilder in America since 2002. The massive ranch property is home to Camp Horton, an annual summer camp that hosts the children related to the employees of D.R. Horton Inc.
Inside Camp Horton’s Family-Friendly Annual Summer Camp for Kids
Camp Horton’s family-friendly annual summer camp began as part of an initiative to give back to employees by inviting employees’ kids to stay at the ranch. Servicing their employees for over twenty years, Camp Horton is for children ages nine through thirteen. Activities at the camp include horseback riding, canoeing, four-wheeling, goat wrestling, and indoor games.
Each year the camp hosts around 360 kids during the summer months covering the costs for travel and admission for the kids to experience the “West Texan Ranch Life.” Horton goes to great lengths to provide the children with this annual experience, so the camp allows them to participate in activities they likely wouldn’t otherwise encounter. In addition, the kids also develop close friendships with their peers from all over the country.
Upgrading the Texas Ranch Home using SYNLawn Artificial Grass
Piltzmaker and the SYNLawn Houston team upgraded the Texas ranch surrounding the main complex with approximately 27,000 square feet of SYNPro 60, laid in an alternating pattern to simulate mow lines you might recognize on a baseball field. Inlaid in the center of the largest section of turf is a full-color custom pre-fabricated D.R. Horton logo. In addition, the team constructed an elaborate 7-hole golf putting green using approximately 1,350 square feet of SYNLawn’s Precision Putt golf surfacing turf surrounded by 900 square feet of SYNRye 200 for fringe. The new artificial grass surfacing provides a clean, safe, and uniform area for campers to enjoy each summer in what is generally a very dusty environment.
Piltzmaker and the SYNLawn Houston team had to overcome many obstacles to complete the project. For example, the ranch location is in a remote area approximately five hours away from the closest SYNLawn warehouse, and the project needed to be complete in only 18 days. Despite those challenges, SYNLawn Houston completed the project in a timely and professional fashion, exceeding the expectations of Horton. The kids who are fortunate enough to enjoy the camp now have a sustainable, safe, and clean surface to enjoy for many summers to come.
