Miami, FL — Located in the historic Overtown neighborhood of Miami, Block 55 At Sawyer’s Walk is a premier residential and retail destination. Spanning over one million square feet, this mixed-use development is home to The Residences at Sawyer’s Walk, which is the largest affordable senior living community built in the U.S. over the past 10 years. Residents live in the 578 apartment units and have access to a variety of luxury amenities designed to promote well-being. SYNLawn West Palm Beach was chosen by Witkin-Hults & Partners, a landscape architecture firm, to bring their innovative vision to life. They collaborated with Coastal Construction and Shinto Landscaping to design and build multiple outdoor living spaces for the community, including a recreational deck, a dog park, and a play area.
Enriching the Community with Artificial Green Spaces

To help enrich the senior community, SYNLawn West Palm Beach installed the following premium artificial turf products to create the recreational deck, dog park, and play area:
- 24,000 square feet of SYNAugustine 547 was used for the majority of the 27,000 square foot recreational deck installation built across eight outdoor areas of the 8th floor. Featuring soft, multi-colored SYNLawn Biomimetic™ grass blades and sugarcane thatch, it delivers a lush, natural look and feel and offers superior resiliency and support.
- 3,000 square feet of SYNTipede 343 was used to complete areas of the recreational deck installation, and 480 square feet was incorporated into the play area located on the ground floor of the complex. This realistic looking artificial grass provides a soft and durable surface ideal for active play. Residents will be able to enjoy the play space with their grandchildren or other youthful visitors.
- 1,200 square feet of SYNAugustine X47 was used in the construction of the dog park on the ground floor of the building. This artificial grass is ideal for pet-friendly spaces due to its unmatched softness and durability. It even helps keep four-legged residents cleaner since it doesn’t get muddy.
Installing Safe and Sustainable Landscaping Solutions
All three of the synthetic surfacing products used for these installations are environmentally friendly landscaping options. Each one is a USDA Certified Bio-Preferred product and manufactured with SYNLawn’s plant-based EnviroLoc+™ Backing System, a multi-layer component system that locks in durable turf fibers and extends the life cycle of the turf. It’s created from renewable resources, so it helps reduce environmental impact while maintaining exceptional durability.
All three products are also engineered with Super Yarn™ Technology featuring Sanitized® antimicrobial technology, StatBlock™ antistatic, and DualChill™ IR-reflective properties, which makes it the best choice for green-conscious landscaping.
The property management team will save on water and other resources since artificial grass landscaping does not require watering, mowing, or fertilizing for upkeep. According to the Synthetic Turf Council, the estimated total amount of synthetic grass installed in North America helps to conserve more than three billion gallons of water annually.
Additionally, synthetic surfacing will keep the residents safer than natural grass landscaping since it provides a smoother surface that is more easily accessible to people in wheelchairs or who use other mobility devices. Plus, no pesticides are needed for lawn care.
