Playground Turf in Frankfort, IL Makes Everbrook Academy Safer

Frankfort, IL – Everbrook Academy, a childcare program serving infants through school-age children, knows how much creative outdoor play benefits a child’s physical and mental well-being. To give its students safer, more accessible, and more inviting places to play, the school hired the playground design and installation experts at SYNLawn Chicago. The team installed premium playground turf in Frankfort, transforming three of the school’s outdoor spaces into beautiful recreation areas for students in this southwest Chicago suburb.

Creating Safe and Sustainable Play Spaces With Synthetic Turf

Everbrook Academy was impressed by other custom playgrounds SYNLawn Chicago had completed, which made the team a natural choice for this important renovation. The school’s existing play areas were surfaced with wood chips, and replacing them was a top priority.

Safety is one of the most important factors when upgrading outdoor play areas. According to the CDC, more than 200,000 children are treated in emergency rooms each year for playground-related injuries. Replacing traditional surfaces like wood chips with safer alternatives like synthetic turf can help reduce those injuries, since artificial turf absorbs shock and lessens the impact of falls.

SYNTipede 321 Playground Turf Built for Busy Students

SYNLawn Chicago installed 6,150 square feet of SYNTipede 321, one of the safest and cleanest playground surfacing options available, to create the new state-of-the-art play zones. This tough, durable turf has the look and feel of natural grass and is built to handle heavy foot traffic from students for years to come. Its smooth, stable surface also creates a more accessible environment for children with mobility challenges.

SYNTipede 321 is USDA Certified Biobased, making it a more environmentally friendly surfacing choice. It’s engineered with Super Yarn™ Technology, featuring Sanitized® Antimicrobial Technology, StatBlock™ anti-static protection, and DualChill™ IR-reflective properties. Everbrook Academy will also save water, since the turf never needs watering to stay green.

To add another layer of protection, SYNLawn Chicago installed two inches of Brock foam underlayment. Paired with the low-pile, low-friction turf blades, the foam mounds enhance both the look and the safety of each play area.

Benefits of replacing wood chips with playground turf include:

• Better shock absorption to help cushion falls
• No splinters, and no loose material for children to pick up or scatter
• A smooth, stable surface that’s easier to navigate for children with mobility challenges
• No watering needed to keep the play areas green
• A clean, consistent surface that doesn’t need to be raked or refilled
