South Dakota State University Showcases Soybean Innovation with Unique Artificial Turf Installation

Brookings, SD — The front lawn of South Dakota State University’s (SDSU) POET Bioproducts Institute at the Research Park at SDSU was given a creative makeover with a soy-backed artificial turf installation created by SYNLawn Mountain West to commemorate their new and collaborative partnership. The unique installation showcases the versatility of soy and features the logos of the South Dakota Soybean Research and Promotion Council (SDSRPC) and SYNLawn.

Using Sustainable Synthetic Turf to Promote Bio-Based Innovation

SYNLawn Mountain West was chosen by the SDSRPC to design and install the front lawn entrance of the 45,000-square-foot specialized laboratory facility due to their shared commitment to bio-based innovation and providing sustainable resources. The visually appealing installation was created using a combination of the following sustainable synthetic turf products manufactured by SYNLawn:

• 2,685 square feet of SYNAugustine 347, which is the softest and most comfortable variety of synthetic turf available. It offers a natural and realistic feel and provides superior drainage that eliminates water pooling and stagnation.
• 165 square feet of SYNAugustine 547 that provides the look of natural grass. It’s ideal for outdoor environments with high foot traffic like a university campus due to its unmatched resiliency and support. It’s made with Super Yarn™ technology, which provides heat reflective, anti-static, Sanitized® and non-abrasive grass blades.
• 180 square feet of SYNPlay 48, which is constructed using low-pile, low-friction grass blades that make the area more accessible for people in wheelchairs or with other mobility issues. It even has an ASTM Class A Fire-Rating and IPEMA certification. This turf comes in various color options. A combination of light green, black and white were used to create the logos featured in the installation.

All of these premium synthetic surfacing products are made with SYNLawn’s exclusive plant-based EnviroLoc+™ backing system created from renewable resources such as soybean oil.
