Belén, Heredia, Costa Rica — A local shopping center had an unused public space they wanted to transform to provide a safe place for children in the Belén community to play. Cityzen CR is a unique, one-of-a-kind space for families and children to relax, play, enjoy local food truck cuisine and a cup of Seattle’s favorite coffee. Cityzen’s is also a highly desirable destination for business with Class A+ offices, an upscale apartment tower, and a Marriott hotel. SYNLawn Costa Rica was selected to design and install an innovative Kid-Safe Playground using the safest and cleanest artificial turf surfacing.
Building a Kid-Safe Playground with Artificial Grass
It’s vital for communities to provide their youth with recreational spaces promoting a more active lifestyle and improving physical and mental health, so this project was very important and personal for the SYNLawn Costa Rica Team. The team transformed the existing dilapidated play space by installing approximately 1,300 square feet of SYNPro 45 to create a fun and unique play space for children of all ages to enjoy. The team also took advantage of the uneven terrain to create built-in natural play options like mounds for climbing that complement the playground equipment.
SYNLawn’s playground grass was ideal for this project since it offers excellent durability and resiliency. It also requires minimum maintenance since it is easy to keep clean and requires no watering or mowing to keep the playground pristine and natural-looking.
Using synthetic playground surfacing provides a safer play environment for children. It helps lessen the impact of falls and reduce injury since it absorbs the shock better than natural grass. Another benefit is that no pesticides are required; faux grass even helps minimize outdoor allergies.
