SYNLawn Artificial Grass New Backdrop for Iconic Del Mar Racetrack

SYNLawn’s high-traffic synthetic turf selected as high-exposure setting for the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club

DEL MAR, Calif. — The historic Del Mar Race Track operated by the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club is most famous for its 1938 Seabiscuit vs. Ligaroti match race and is also the second-largest horse-racing venue in the Western United States. As renowned for their world-class horse racing as they are for hosting many of the area’s best national touring concerts, weddings, and local events including the San Diego County Fair, the club receives more than a million visitors at their facility throughout the course of the calendar year. With that amount of high traffic coming through the venue the oval patch of natural grass in the paddock area of the complex known as the walking ring became quite challenging to maintain or even grow at all.

Seeking a solution, it was only natural property managers inevitably turned to SYNLawn San Diego to install more than 8,500 square feet of SYNTipede 343 which resulted in a pristine and durable artificial grass that will look great on race day and serve as the centerpiece of the extremely public Del Mar Paddock area, the enclosure where horses are paraded and mounted before each race.

“They were replacing the natural lawn too often due to the regular events held there throughout the year,” said Jamie Neagle, general manager of SYNLawn San Diego. “Our artificial grass provided them with an area that is more durable and less maintenance yet still maintained the natural appearance they needed.” This high-profile installation shows why SYNLawn, the largest manufacturer of artificial grass in America, is the natural choice for commercial clients who have high-traffic needs and desire a true-to-life look.
