Iconic Lincoln Center Josie Robertson Plaza Gets Temporary Transformation with SYNLawn Artificial Grass

New York, NY — The Iconic Josie Robertson Plaza at the Lincoln Center got a temporary transformation using SYNLawn artificial grass. SYNLawn New York collaborated with award-winning set designer and MacArthur Genius grantee Mimi Lien to create “The GREEN,” a sustainable public art installation centered around the impressive Revson Fountain. The project was recently awarded Project of the Year in the Specialty category at the 2022 SYNLawn Annual Conference.

After spending several hours at the SYNLawn New York TriBeCa showroom with owner Anastasia Phillips, Lien selected SYNLawn’s Bio-based synthetic turf to complete the eco-friendly open-air installation in the outdoor campus. Along with the Lincoln Center Arts Council, Lien wanted a space for New Yorkers to relax and enjoy live shows outdoors.

Bringing the Community Together with Innovative Design

The innovative installation was designed to bring the community together with the multi-purpose outdoor courtyard acting as the physical centerpiece of Restart Stages, Lincoln Center’s initiative to help the arts sector. Restart Stages is part of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation-Lincoln Center Agora Initiative, a collaboration bringing new approaches to public spaces.

The GREEN at Lincoln Center Plaza also gave New Yorkers and tourists alike a space to watch pop-up performances, meetups, join in group workouts, and many other activities during the spring and summer. This vibrant, lush outdoor green space comes complete with arches, turf-covered chairs, tables, essentially allowing anyone to lay on the grass throughout the Lincoln Center’s outdoor campus, covered entirely in concrete.

Transforming Historic Lincoln Center Plaza with SYNLawn Artificial Grass

Home to the Metropolitan Opera and New York City Ballet, the historic Josie Robertson Plaza was transformed with SYNLawn artificial grass. The plaza, officially named in 1998, is nearly 20,000 square feet of concrete centered around the Revson Fountain, which has been part of the Lincoln Center Plaza since 1964.

The installation team from SYNLawn New York provided 14,000 square feet of USDA Certified bio-based SYNAugustine 347 to retrofit the outdoor plaza’s courtyard. Lien selected SYNAugustine 347 due to the lush, realistic feel of the synthetic grass, eco-friendly product selection, and Class-A fire rating.
