Dimensional Place Uses Eco-Friendly Synthetic Turf to Make Uptown Charlotte Even More Delightful
Charlotte, NC — The residents of Charlotte recently gained a new local gem through the construction of the office building, Dimensional Place. This 282,000-square-foot property, located at the corner of Camden Road and Tryon Street, has added more shopping, leisure, and business opportunities to Charlotte’s south end. The beautiful new building includes approximately 11,300 square feet dedicated to restaurants and retail spaces and has quickly become the new “go-to” place for locals in the Uptown Dilworth, Wilmore and Southend areas.
Dimensional Place unites work and play in its unique and forward-thinking design. Along with its intent to promote local business opportunities in Charlotte, the building also has a rooftop with walkways and greenery for locals to enjoy. Best of all, the rooftop’s artificial grass won’t require upkeep meaning the residents and locals can enjoy the new green space year ’round.
Artificial Grass Makes Rooftop Lawns Possible
The rooftop lawn uses SYNLawn Roofdeck Platinum, the ultimate artificial grass for rooftops. It is the first infill-free artificial turf that also carries a Class A fire rating. Also, to protect the roof and keep down energy costs, the grass uses plant-based EnviroLoc™ backing system and infrared-reflective HeatBlock™ technology to keep the surface temperatures low.
SYNLawn Carolina distributors and installers Southeast Turf (link) were up for the challenges involved in this exciting project, which takes up around 17,000 square feet of the flat commercial roof. During the installation, they had to carefully hoist dozens of 15-foot wide rolls of turf six stories onto the rooftop. Safety due to the sheer weight of the massive turf rolls was no easy feat to overcome.
The weather also added more challenges as the installation crew had to secure the grass with sandbags when Hurricane Florence swept through town. Nevertheless, the installation was successful thanks to careful cooperation between Southeast Turf, local contractors, and the building’s architects.
Meticulous Attention to Detail
The synthetic turf installation team also conducted safety testing daily. After numerous tests and improvements, the turf can sustain 90 mph winds with ease. The building’s developers selected SYNLawn over other brands because they knew of SYNLawn’s quality and excellent reputation. The artificial turf also comes with a limited lifetime warranty, environmentally responsible bio-based backing, while supporting local farmers through the use of soybean oils instead of petroleum. SYNLawn’s forward-thinking mindset aligned with the Architects, Designers, and Dimensional Place’s values.
SYNLawn Artificial Turf Makes Rooftops Serene
Overall, this was a highly involved project that required the seamless cooperation of contractors, architects, and SYNLawn turf installers. The results were worth the hard work. The rooftop greenery makes a refreshing change of view from urban sights, providing serenity to locals, whether they are at work or play
