The LuBird’s Light Foundation Completes All-Inclusive Playground for Children with Disabilities

Aurora, CO — The LuBird’s Light Foundation recently completed the first 100 percent all-inclusive playground benefiting children with disabilities. The Aurora, Colorado-based company hired SYNLawn Colorado to install the innovative and accessible space, which lives at LuBird’s Light at Stanley Marketplace.

Studies show the many health and developmental benefits for children when they play outside. Unlike other major cities, the Denver and Aurora areas in Colorado did not have a safe outdoor playground for children who have challenges accessing typical play equipment. With over 74,000 kids in Colorado with disabilities, this playground development was long overdue. This one-of-a-kind playground gives those children a safe space to play outdoors with their peers and families.

Designing Denver’s First All-Inclusive Playground

After reading about the benefits of SYNLawn artificial grass, the founder of the LuBird’s Light Foundation selected SYNLawn Colorado to help the design team develop Denver’s first all-inclusive playground. The team collaborated with SYNLawn Colorado to design the new playground using SYNLawn’s premium synthetic surfacing.

As a non-profit, Lubird’s Light heavily relies on donations to complete projects like this one. Along with the other vendors, SYNLawn Colorado helped to reduce the cost of the products to benefit the organization. The owners of the Stanley Marketplace also provided 9,000 square feet used for the playground installation free of charge.

The installation includes 7,000 square feet of vibrant SYNPour poured-in-place rubber surfacing and 3,500 square feet of USDA Certified bio-based SYNAugustine 547. The fully-funded playground offers equipment that is fit for children who are in wheelchairs and promotes play for all.

About the LuBird’s Light Foundation

The LuBird’s Light Foundation was founded in 2017 in honor of a girl named Lucia, who was born with a rare genetic condition called Pallister Killian Syndrome. LuBird’s Light, founded by Lucia’s parents, is inspired daily by Lucia’s joy under difficult circumstances. Their mission to “create a brighter world for exceptional kids” is realized through building all-inclusive playgrounds for children with all needs.

The Aurora playground at Stanley Marketplace is one of eight projects the foundation has completed since 2017. The LuBird’s Foundation selected Stanley Marketplace for the installation due to its proximity to Denver Metro’s pediatric hospitals and over 50 local businesses. With the addition of this playground, all children in the Denver metropolitan area have a safe and uniform surface to play on for years to come.
