Crazy Golf Facility Opens 1st US Location with 2 Indoor Mini-Golf Courses
Washington, DC — The England-based Swingers Crazy Golf recently opened its first location in the United States in Washington D.C. The 21 and over indoor golf facility has two mini-golf courses, gourmet street-food-style restaurants, and full-liquor bars. “Crazy Golf” is a British term started by the London golf facility. They take a spin on a classic game of mini-golf and add cocktails, delicious food, and live DJs.
Since Swingers opened its doors in 2016, the crazy golf club has become a huge success in London, England. Long hoping to expand overseas, the owners selected the nation’s capital city to open in the States. Owners selected Washington for its first location in America due to its lively nightlife, top-rated restaurants, and population of over 700,000 people. Swingers opened its Washington location in Dupont Circle. The neighborhood is home to boutique stores, museums, bars, and restaurants, offering the perfect spot for the Crazy Golf facility.
Designing State-of-the-Art Mini-Golf Courses with SYNLawn
The owners of Swingers were seeking a premium synthetic grass product to install two state-of-the-art mini-golf courses at the indoor facility. Upon doing research, SYNLawn quickly became a top contender for the space. SYNLawn Chesapeake Bay president Kaitlyn Lord worked closely with the architect to match the turf product with what they used in their Europe locations. Lord worked with the team to test the products that met company standards and looked realistic upon installation.
SYNLawn Chesapeake Bay installed 8,000 square feet of SYNLawn’s Classic Pitch golf putting green surface and SYNTipede 243 to complete two mini-golf courses and one walkway. Since the designers and owners were from England, Lord and the SYNLawn Chesapeake Bay team had to work on the installation on a tight timeline due to visa restrictions.
The Impact of Crazy Golf
Swingers Crazy Golf has positively impacted its communities since the original five-month pop-up location opened in downtown London in 2014. Its first permanent location opened in London after the success of the pop-up. The success of the crazy golf club even drew the attention of British GQ magazine, labeling it “London’s new Friday night” and “One of the 60 best things in the world”.
Since going viral on TikTok, the golf facility has seen continued success contributing to the recent opening of its second U.S. location in New York City, which opened in early 2022. The New York City location comes complete with turf installed by SYNLawn New York. Owners are also working with SYNLawn Chesapeake Bay to complete a second location in the Washington D.C. area. Given this success, Swingers’ owners have even more plans to expand across the U.S. in the coming years.
