A Big Dig for a Residential Installation
To create a level space for the hockey field, an extensive excavation of the existing lawn had to take place. Installers then had to add crushed stone and UltraBase panels to create a smooth base before laying the turf. Creating a smooth and even surface is a critical step when creating the base of any turf project, especially one for field hockey practice.
After pouring two layers of the base material, a 17 mm padding layer was also added to give the turf just a little cushion. For infill, Sand was selected to create the correct density and texture necessary for smooth shots of the hockey ball. The installation team even assembled and set up field hockey goals for the client so they could use the area as soon as work was completed.
Summer storms rolled through Cape Cod, Hyannis during the installation, but the experienced installers were able to handle the unpredictable storms, completing the work in just one week.
Creating a Special Surface for Home Use
The 7,200 square foot field combines both athletic field and landscape lawn installation techniques. Using double-sided tape and SYNBind adhesives for artificial grass to seal the seams, workers carefully crafted a smooth field hockey surface.
