Charlotte, NC — Ballantyne, an affluent area of Charlotte, is widely regarded as the region’s most successfully designed community. It was further enhanced by an outdoor revitalization program called “Ballantyne Reimagined” to provide residents with upscale outdoor recreation spaces and as an economic driver for the region. Scott Marks, the owner of SouthEast Turf (also known as SYNLawn Carolina), and his team installed SYNLawn’s premium artificial turf for the multi-use green spaces.
Repurposing Outdoor Green Spaces
Northwood Investors partnered with several companies specializing in landscape architecture, urban design, and civil engineering to plan and implement the first phase of the Ballantyne ReImagined Project, including SYNLawn Carolina. The goal of this project was to repurpose green spaces to offer the Ballantyne community a variety of recreational amenities.
Marks and his team from SYNLawn Carolina installed 43,000 square feet of SYNTipede X43 in the 6-acre Stream Park, including two event lawns, a communal hammock space, a playground, and three additional multi-purpose spaces lawns for residents to enjoy.
SYNTipede X43 offers a soft touch and extreme durability for high-traffic areas. This high-performance synthetic surfacing is also made with SYNLawn’s exclusive Super Yarn™ technology that provides heat-reducing IR reflectors, Stat-Block™ anti-static additives, and Sanitized® anti-microbial technologies.
Part of the project included installing the synthetic turf on a hill with a slope that required the addition of 3 inches of SYNPour™ Poured-in-Place (PIP) materials underneath it. While this posed an initial challenge to the team, they were able to overcome it due to their skills and expertise.
The SYNLawn Carolina team is proud of the lush recreational spaces they helped create to further beautify the Ballantyne community and offer the public a variety of green spaces for relaxation, socialization and play.
