SYNLawn Colorado steps in to help heal STEM School Highlands Ranch, Colorado after shooting tragedy with new Play Area grass
Highlands Ranch, CO — While mass shootings appear to make the news regularly; every tragic event shakes their respective communities to the very core. One such unfortunate incident took place on May 7th, 2019, at the STEM School Highlands Ranch with a school shooting rocking the quiet suburb neighborhood of Denver, Colorado.
In February of 2019, School officials reached out to SYNScapes of Colorado (dba: SYNLawn Colorado) to work out the details of replacing the school’s existing natural grass with SYNLawn synthetic turf. In June, when the school director reached out again, it became clear it was an opportunity to give back to the community to help them any way possible.
Giving the Students a New Place to Play
When students return to a school after a traumatizing event like a shooting, physical changes to the grounds can help reduce their stress and anxiety. SYNLawn Colorado saw the perfect occasion to support the school system by installing more than 2,000 square feet of synthetic grass in the playground areas in time for the start of the new school year. The newly renovated play areas have created a visual difference for returning students with hopes they feel safe and comfortable in their new surroundings.
SYNLawn Colorado also partnered with USGreentech (link) during the installation. The team chose SYNLawn’s most widely used infill material, Envirofill™. Envirofill is an advanced infill material with an acrylic coating that stays cooler than traditional crumb rubber materials, is cleaner and helps promote better drainage through the turf. The result is a safer, more comfortable playground surface.
