What Makes This Coastal Bend School Playground One of a Kind

Portland, TX – Outdoor recreation is essential for healthy childhood development. Gregory-Portland Early Childhood Center understands how important it is to give its young students a unique, imaginative place to play.

To beautify the school and give students a safe, clean, and accessible space to play, exercise, and socialize, the center upgraded its interior courtyard with artificial turf landscaping. SYNLawn Houston worked closely with Weaver & Jacobs Constructors, Inc. to design and build a state-of-the-art Coastal Bend school playground with a fully custom look.

A One-of-a-Kind Design Built With Prefabricated Turf

SYNLawn Houston has extensive experience creating one-of-a-kind landscape designs. For this project, the team used prefabricated turf in a variety of colors to create a 20-inch diameter compass design on the playground surface. SYNLawn’s prefabricated products are fully customizable and cut with precision CNC water jets, allowing for a high level of detail in even the most sophisticated designs.

Premium Playground Surfaces Installed at the Center

The SYNLawn Houston team installed the following products to build the play space:

• 17,340 square feet of SYNTipede 321: One of the safest and cleanest playground surfacing options available. It has the look and feel of natural grass and is tough enough to handle heavy foot traffic from children. It’s also a USDA Certified Biobased product.
• 14,045 square feet of SYNPlay 48 in Blue, Gray, and Green: This low-friction, non-abrasive surface has an energy-absorbing cushion that helps prevent injuries, making it ideal for school playgrounds. It’s available in a variety of colors with custom options like logos and patterns. Its durable, color-fast fibers are UV-protected and resist sun degradation for a long product life. SYNPlay 48 also carries an ASTM Class A fire rating and IPEMA certification.
• 870 square feet of SYNSport in Vegas Gold: Featuring Trionic Plus™ technology, SYNSport is engineered for superior durability and support, creating a softer, stronger, longer-lasting turf. It’s one of the safest synthetic surfaces available.
• 24,000 square feet of Brock 2-inch PowerBase Play XL: This shock pad system is engineered specifically for artificial turf playgrounds. Its non-toxic, highly durable material resists bacteria, fungi, and chemicals.

SYNTipede 321 and SYNSport are both made with Super Yarn™ Technology, which includes Sanitized® Antimicrobial Technology, StatBlock™ anti-static protection, and DualChill™ IR-reflective properties to help keep the surface clean, comfortable, and cooler under the South Texas sun.

Building a Safer, More Sustainable Playground

Synthetic turf offers many advantages over other playground surfacing materials:
