Florida Boxing Facility Combats Parkinson’s Disease with Artificial Grass Exercise Area

New Smyrna Beach, FL — Rock Steady Boxing Facility in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, recently upgraded its outdoor courtyard with SYNLawn synthetic turf to help combat Parkinson’s Disease. According to the National Institute of Health, Parkinson’s Disease is a disorder of the brain which can lead to shaking, stiffness, and difficulty with walking, balance, and coordination. The symptoms associated with Parkinson’s often begin gradually and worsen over time.

Although there is no cure, other therapies, such as non-contact boxing, can help relieve the symptoms. In This Corner, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, founded Rock Steady’s non-contact boxing-inspired classes, which benefit patients of Parkinson’s.

Rock Steady Gym’s Impact on Parkinson’s Disease

Rock Steady Gym has been impacting those with Parkinson’s Disease since 2006. The new upgrade to the gym’s outdoor space results from a grant awarded to owner Maryann Chopin and a partnership with the Lowe’s 100 Hometowns program, which celebrates worthy initiatives nationwide. Rock Steady Boxing provides patients with Parkinson’s Disease with exercises to reverse, reduce, and delay symptoms. The partnership with Lowe’s allowed the gym to expand its outdoor space with SYNLawn and increase its impact among Parkinson’s patients.

Previously the gym’s existing outdoor space often went unused since it had poor drainage and an uneven surface. The addition of SYNLawn’s premium product helped to solve the water issue and provided a safe, easy to clean, ADA-compliant surface for boxers to enjoy.

Annually, 60,000 people are diagnosed with this degenerative muscular disease. Research supports that rigorous exercise focused on balance, motor movement, core strength, and rhythm can help to elevate the symptoms associated with Parkinson’s. Rock Steady Boxing programs are in 871 locations globally and benefit over 43,500 boxers worldwide.

Transforming an Outdoor Space with SYNLawn Synthetic Turf

SYNLawn Miami was selected to transform the outdoor space with SYNLawn synthetic turf. The installation was completed using two artificial grass products, Precision Putt and SYNTipede 343, to create a durable and safe surface for the gym’s patrons.

Maryann worked closely with project managers from SYNLawn Miami and Kee Parks & Recreation to design the space and felt confident selecting SYNLawn’s artificial grass due to its Made in the USA quality guarantee, antimicrobial properties, and unmatched lifetime product warranty. The final installation brought joy and excitement to the entire team, and gym-goers look forward to using the space for many years to come.
