Successful Month-Long Pet Adoption Tour a Life Saver

More than 1,000 pets placed in their forever homes during FIDO Friendly Magazine’s 2015 Get Your Licks on Route 66 pet adoption tour.

FIDO Friendly Magazine is dedicated to leaving no dog behind, and SYNLawn was proud to help support that mission during their 7th Annual Get Your Licks on Route 66 pet adoption tour. The month-long event kicked off in Riverside, Calif., on September 11 and ended in Merriam, Kans., on October 17.

More than 3,000 pets have been placed within the first six years, but during this year’s tour, even more dog lovers came out to show their support at the various shelters across the country. “It was our best tour yet with more than 1,000 pets finding their new forever homes, up from 600 the previous year!” exclaimed Susan Sims, publisher of FIDO Friendly Magazine. One of Susan’s memorable moments included a couple who was celebrating their 51st wedding anniversary and adopted an older dog who reminded them of a dog they had for 16 years but had recently passed away.

Even celebrities showed their support. Brandon McMillan, host of the weekly CBS series “Lucky Dog” and spokesperson of the tour, was at the Van Nuys shelter and had his crew filming event footage for his show. Additionally, two stars from CBS’ “The Young & The Restless” also spent some time with some rescue dogs.

At the end of the tour, they raised more than $1,000 that went to local pet shelters. More than 3,000 people attended the Canine Carnival in St. Louis, and they had a line of people for four hours who were all waiting to donate their $2 in order to spin the wheel. “It’s fun for us to introduce products to the attendees for the first time, and everyone walks away with a smile,” said Susan.

Seven of our distributors along Route 66 got involved by attending their local event in order to help educate new dog owners about why our artificial grass is a great solution for pets. Every person donating to the cause got to spin the Prize Wheel, and we gave away SYNLawn mats shaped like dog bones. According to Greg Sims, COO of FIDO Friendly Magazine, people were excited to get the SYNLawn doormats, but many were not familiar with our SYNLawn products. “There’s still education to be done when it comes to understanding the benefits of SYNLawn with dogs,” noted George Neagle, vice president of sales and marketing for SYNLawn. “However, we have plenty of testimonials that can attest that our pet customers love it.”
